Festival Season

After a brief hiatus, it seems the sun is back again and here to stay! And it’s just in time for festival season! Our trend team at Millimetre have been keeping their ears to the ground for the top hair trends from this year’s festivals so far.

So whether you’re bigging it up at Bestival or loving life at Leeds, we’ve got the perfect look for your festival adventures…

Touch of pink
It’s no secret that we have a massive crush on Game of Throne’s Sophie Turner. Not only is she a hair inspiration but she’s also the global ambassador for one of our favourite products WellaPlex.

With WellaPlex your stylists are now able to treat your hair whilst carrying out your colour transformation. Which is why Sansa Stark is able to keep her hair looking so healthy whilst pulling off so many colour transformations.

One of this season’s trends – as inspired by Sophie Turner – is natural wavy hair with a pink touch to the ends, for a girly but edgy festival look.

Double trouble
We’ve loved space buns since back in the day, when the Spice Girls and Gwen Stefani rocked them first. And we love that the trend has come back around with new twists and reinventions.

Try the classic backcombed buns, or plait your hair for a different look. We love these cute afro buns from the Insta feed of @phanie_00 – that beautiful natural hair and those eyebrows on fleek have got us swooning!

Wear the rainbow
Festivals can give you the chance to experiment with colour in ways you’ve only dreamed about. Rainbow hair is still a hot trend this summer.

If you don’t still want to look like a unicorn back at work on Monday you can try hair extensions or hair chalk to get that temporary rainbow look just like the stunning @JosephineSkriver.

Life is better with glitter
We are loving this look from @bazaar – pairing space buns with a glitter parting is the ultimate festival look.

There’s lots of different glitter looks to pick from and we’d suggest buying your own to take to the festival so you can spread the glitter look far and wide!

90s back, alright!
The 90s trend just will not quit and we are not complaining.

We adore the crop tops, skinny sunglasses and cutesy hair-dos.

Think Cher and Dionne in Clueless mixed with a little bit of Julia Styles in 10 Things I Hate About You and you have the perfect 90s look.

Flower power
Channel your inner hippy with big, bold wavy hair.

It’s the perfect festival look as you can survive the lack of showers by using plenty of dry shampoo and adding braids or a flower crown to cover up any less-than-fresh roots.

We adore this look from@LisaOlsoon

Hat’s cool
Keep cool in the summer sunshine with a wide-brimmed hat.

It’s also a good way to cover your roots between washes at a festival.

Check out your local charity shops for a bargain, and remember to drink lots of water and stay hydrated!

Hair piercings
Hair piercings have been around since last summer but they’re still very on-trend.

We’ve seen them all over the catwalks and they’ve even been modelled by the likes of @ArianaGrande this summer (p.s. congrats on your engagement Ari).

Simply attach the hair piercings and jewels to your braids so a super glam summer hairstyle.

Foulard chic
One of our favourite evergreen trends is the foulard – aka the printed silk scarf.

Pair it with a pair of statement earrings and a bold lip for instant glam.

Holiday Hair Tips

Here at Millimetre, we love the sunshine – especially for the tanned skin, freckles and sunkissed hair! But if you’re not careful, all those UV rays can damage your hair meaning more to chop off when Autumn comes around. The sun’s rays can break down your hair shaft, whilst salt from the ocean can alter the hair cuticle causing dry, frizzy and weak hair.

This month we sat down with our specialists to discuss the top tips to prevent sun damage to the hair so you can enjoy your holiday without the frizz…

Oil up
Forget that tanning oil – try hair oil instead! We’re always prompted to put sun cream on our skin but we often forget that we also need to protect our hair from the sun’s rays.

A perfect solution for this is System Professional’s Solar Sun Oil. Run 2-3 pumps through the hair with your fingers, focussing on the ends (which dry out faster than the roots and are more susceptible to damage).

Hats on
Another top tip is to cover your head and hair with a hat, bandana or turban.

This will not only protect your hair but also your scalp and can help you to avoid sunburn, peeling scalp and sunstroke.

If funds are low check out your local charity shops or vintage stores for a bargain bonnet!

Rehydrate
After spending the day in the sunshine, make sure you give your thirsty hair a drink.

Why not try a thirst-quenching hair mask like the Pureology Hydrate Hydra Whip – a nutrient and moisture treatment that it will help your hair to fight dryness and frizziness.

Braid away
To avoid your hair to breaking or getting weaker when you are dipping your toes in the sea or pool, why not try tieing your hair in
a beautiful braid?

You can share your braid snaps and tag us @millimetre_salons in your pictures on Instagram to show all your creations.

Rinse thoroughly
After a swim in the sea or a dip in the pool, remember to rinse your hair as soon as possible.

Salt and chlorine can mess with the structure of your hair or even compromise your colour, so it is highly recommended to rinse your hair after a good swimming session.

Just do it like @leverflack in her tropical shower!

Drink lots of water
Last but definitely not least, make sure you drink lots of water.

Staying hydrated is very important for your body and skin, but it can also keep your hair healthy. Make sure you’re getting your 2 litres of water per day to keep your hair looking healthy and stunning!
